My previous experience with photo editing has been limited to Adobe Fireworks. While it shares much of the same principles and tools as Photoshop I felt I wanted to get to grip with the differences before completing Task 2. As a result I have experimented with a variety of Photoshop techniques which include(but are not limited to) exposure, cropping, rotating, sharpening/blurring, masks, selections, adjustment, layers and blending modes.

Open in Photoshop and began by altering Brightness and Contrast levels (Image drop-down menu):

Subtly changed the Colour Balance to give the photo a ‘warmer’ feel:

Created a second layer by the copying the first:

Applied a Gaussian Blur (radius 4.6 pxls) filter on the top layer:

Applied the Artistic Filter “Rough Pastel” on the same layer:

Used the Eraser tool the remove part of the top layer (leaving a perimeter around the image), revealing the bottom, unfiltered layer:

Used the Cropping tool:

Added an adjustment layer with a sepia filter:

Altered the Colour Balance slightly to achieve a deeper sepia then changed the adjustment layer’s opacity to allow the layer beneath to be visible:

Added another adjustment layer with an alteration to the Brightness and Contrast:

Added a final adjustment layer with a change to the Hue/Saturation balance to achieve a ‘greener’ feel to the image:

As suspected I am relatively familiar with the workings of Photoshop, however I now know how to utilize layers/adjustment layers effectively. Think the image looks very different from what it started out as, gives the impression of an epic, Lord of the Rings-esque landscape because of the editing.
